ACE
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)
The ACE questionnaire is a 10-question screening tool measuring exposure to traumatic events during childhood (before age 18), including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction. Developed by Felitti and colleagues at Kaiser Permanente and the CDC, it is one of the most widely used instruments for assessing the long-term impact of childhood adversity on adult health and wellbeing. Answer each question thinking about your first 18 years of life.

Disclaimer: This is an educational screening tool, not a medical or psychiatric diagnosis. A higher ACE score is statistically associated with increased risk of health and mental health challenges in adulthood, but does not predict individual outcomes. Many people with high scores live healthy, fulfilling lives. If these questions bring up difficult memories or emotions, please consider speaking with a mental health professional.
